Can’t Talk, I’m Busy Being Hot

What even is hotness? We started with ‘Hot Girl Summer’, but many are expanding the definition of the term beyond attractiveness. Led by a snippet of Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Girl in the Hood’ video where the singer explains she can’t talk right now as she’s busy being hot. From there TikTok users started posting their own version of ‘being hot’. Hotness doesn’t only apply to your physique, it is also defined by your accomplishments and values, and most importantly how you see yourself. As writer Danya Issawi explains: “Hotness is no longer just in the eye of the beholder. It’s a mood. It’s a vibe.” Issawi speaks with a range of women who are self-declaring their hotness as well as researchers who speak to the trend.

Influencers Are out - authenticity Is In 

The influencer economy is about to go through some changes. According to writer Danica Lo, TikTok catalyzed it: “Catalyzed by the popularity of TikTok and its algorithm, which prioritizes content types over creators, brand marketers and digital agencies are increasingly allocating social media budgets towards user-generated content from sall creators and away from big-ticket deals with internet celebs”.
