MAYA MOORE

The model and advocate shares her favorite products, places and designer

Maya Moore refuses to conform to anyone else's vision of style. The model, content creator and disability advocate has carved out her own corner of fashion discourse with a minimal yet undeniably sexy approach to getting dressed. Born from necessity—navigating style with one arm after a cancer diagnosis at 14—her aesthetic has evolved into something far more intentional. Her background in photography, journalism, and marketing sharpens her eye for what matters, while her vulnerability about mental health and identity as a Black, queer, disabled woman adds depth to her cultural commentary. Whether it's through her latest musings on her Substack or sharing her latest discoveries, Moore's lens on culture is distinctly and unapologetically hers.

THIS BOOK CAPTURES DISABILITY'S FULL COMPLEXITY

Published to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Disability Visibility is a collection of essays and poems edited by activist Alice Wong. Drawing together the voices of writers, performers, lawyers and everyday thinkers, the book captures the textured reality of disabled life: Its politics, its pleasures and its daily negotiations. There are essays that challenge the very notion of personhood, as in Harriet McBryde Johnson’s encounter with Peter Singer; others reflect quietly on art, access, and ambition. Throughout, Wong avoids sentimentality in favour of something sharper. The result is a timely and unflinching document of disability culture as it exists today; complex, intimate, and deeply human.

“This book has changed me profoundly. When I lost my arm to cancer over ten years ago, I was desperate for community and to connect with others who shared my experience. Disability is complex, dynamic, and ultimately beautiful; however, disabled stories are not fully mainstream and traditionally are often one-note. This anthology VALIDATED the complexity of the disabled experience and, through honest and compelling storytelling, introduced me to a universal truth across the spectrum of disability and chronic illness: representation and empathy are crucial for a better, more inclusive future. I laughed, sobbed, and overall beamed while reading this book. I return to it often for work and pleasure.”

“This hotel is such a gem. I last visited in 2022 and want to return. The hotel has a modern bohemian aesthetic with minimal influences. Each room is individually decorated and imbues its own UNIQUE feeling and experience. The room I stayed in was painted in soft hues of green and orange, had mid-century modern-inspired furniture, and a cozy, curved, tufted chair that added a retro and chic vibe. The room was bathed in the most beautiful sunlight most of the day. I felt relaxed and happy lounging on the patio hammock and taking an excessive amount of outdoor showers.”

A HOTEL THAT CELEBRATES LIFE’S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Tucked away in San Juan's Ocean Park neighbourhood—a minute from the sea and ten from the city's old heart—Dreamcatcher is for those who prefer a hotel of an intimate scale. The first and only vegetarian, adults-only hotel in Puerto Rico, it has the quiet confidence of a place that knows exactly what it's offering and for whom. Each of its 19 rooms has a curated interior, some with outdoor tubs, others with handwoven hammocks and rare, antique furniture pieces. Creating the sense that every corner has been cared for. Food is sourced from local, organic farmers but those who enjoy cooking have access to the communal kitchen. It's designed for doing very little, very well. And discovering that sometimes that's everything you need.

DENIM WORN BY CREATIVES IN NEW YORK AND CHEFS IN PARIS

AGOLDE understands that the best denim carries cultural weight. Since 1993, the LA-based brand has perfected the art of vintage reinterpretation, engineering classic silhouettes with modern precision through their vertically-owned facilities. Their Low Slung Baggy captures this philosophy perfectly. Crafted from regenerative cotton in clean white denim, these jeans sit confidently low on the hips with an intentionally oversized, straight-leg silhouette. The rigid, non-stretch fabric offers that authentic vintage hand feel. The kind that improves with wear and feels personally yours from day one. It's denim that understands the power of proportion and the subtle art of looking like you weren't trying too hard.

“When I think of my ‘uniform’, I think of my favorite Jil Sander trousers and these jeans, as they are my most WORN pants. I have these in three washes: equal parts jeans, trousers, and sweatpants. I have worn them with everything from a vintage silk halter top and fur coat to a sweatshirt and t-shirt with a doodle of my cat, Billie.”

“If you know me, you know I have an AFFINITY for Jil Sander as a queer woman and self proclaimed minimalist. I have several archival jackets and trousers from past collections as well as cult favorites like the Goji and Tangle bag.”

AN ODE TO THE PROLIFIC GERMAN DESIGNER

Jil Sander built her legacy on a simple yet radical premise: that true luxury lies in restraint, not excess. The German designer launched her label in 1968 from a Hamburg boutique, developing a vision of minimalism that would eventually reshape how the entire industry thinks about modern dressing. Her precise cuts and innovative fabrics spoke to women who valued substance over spectacle, creating clothes that felt both timeless and contemporary. Through decades of expansion, departures, and returns to her own brand, Sander's influence only deepened. Even her collaborations beyond luxury—like the +J line with Uniqlo—proved that her aesthetic transcends price points, reaching new generations. Her enduring appeal lies in understanding that the most powerful statements are often the quietest ones.

A NORWEGIAN BRAND’S STUDY IN SILVER

Studio Bille was founded in 2021 by Maria Undheim with a clear intent: to create jewelry that endures. Drawing on Scandinavian restraint and an interest in form, the Norwegian brand works exclusively with recycled sterling silver and responsibly sourced pearls to shape pieces that feel both sculptural and quietly essential. Each collection is crafted in small, family-run workshops in Norway and Italy, meeting the highest ethical and environmental standards. Maya particularly likes the Hollow Necklace—a solid sterling silver chain with a satisfying weight and elegant simplicity. It’s made in Arezzo, Italy, and designed to be worn, and kept, forever.

“Part edge, part elegance—this necklace is my year-round go-to. The SCULPTURAL links are unlike anything else I own, and at 17 inches, it hits that just right spot above the collarbone. I’ve styled it with everything from crisp button-downs to slinky silk dresses. Bonus: it’s made from sterling silver and the oversized clasp makes it way easier to put on solo. A forever piece, no question.”
