MARIE MAROT

The designer shares her favorite bistro, gallery, and hidden shopping spot

Marie Marot is a purist, distilling Parisian ease into sharp tailoring, soft structure, and an understated cool. A lifelong devotee of the perfect shirt, she has built her world on restraint—clean lines, precise cuts, and a reverence for simplicity. Inspired by icons like Carolyn Bessette and Charlotte Rampling, her aesthetic is rooted in clarity: neutral palettes, crisp cottons, and silhouettes that balance nonchalance with precision. Her eponymous brand reimagines menswear staples with a feminine sensibility, delivering slightly oversized shirts designed to move with you. Marot believes true confidence comes from feeling at home in what you wear. It’s not about reinvention, but refinement. And in a world of excess, she stands apart by knowing exactly what to leave out.

INSIDE THE WORLD OF ANTOINE BOURDELLE

Located in Montparnasse, the Musée Bourdelle is a museum that feels like a working studio. Once home to sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, the space preserves his impressive works, along with the raw, unfinished pieces that reveal his creative process. It’s a place where you can appreciate both the final product and the journey that led to it, from initial sketches to full-scale pieces. A quiet, reflective space that offers insight into the nature of craftsmanship and the process of turning raw ideas into lasting art.

“What makes this museum so special is its intimate and almost SECRETIVE atmosphere, far from the crowds of larger institutions. Tucked away in Montparnasse, it offers a rare and deeply personal glimpse into the world of sculptor Antoine Bourdelle.”

“More than just a boutique, Deyrolle is a cabinet of curiosities filled with taxidermy, entomology, and botanical prints. I love its timeless, almost SURREAL atmosphere—it feels like stepping into a 19th-century explorer’s dream. They also have a fantastic selection of books, offering an unexpected and refreshing take on natural history, art, and science. Their bookstore is as fascinating as the objects that surround it.”

IN PARIS, A CABINET OF CURIOSITIES

Deyrolle is Paris at its most surreal. A taxidermy institution since 1831, it is part scientific archive, part fever dream—its glass cases filled with jewel-toned butterflies, preserved fauna, and intricately arranged insects. There is something deeply poetic about the space, a balance between the natural and the artificial, the scientific and the aesthetic. The dimly lit rooms, filled with glass cases and mounted creatures, feel like stepping into another era—where learning was hands-on and wonder was limitless. It’s impossible to leave without a new appreciation for the natural world, its delicate details frozen in time. Strange, beautiful, and unmistakably Parisian.

20TH CENTURY DESIGN DOESN’T GET BETTER THAN THIS

Patrick Seguin has turned furniture into fine art. His eponymous gallery is a temple to 20th-century design, spotlighting visionaries like Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand. Minimal, industrial, and impeccably curated, it’s where clean lines and functional beauty take center stage. Each piece—whether a modular home or a sculptural chair—challenges the idea of what furniture should be. There’s a quiet radicalism to the space, a sense that good design isn’t about excess but about purpose. For those who believe architecture and interiors should be lived in, not just admired, this is the place to study the greats.

“This gallery is a true reference for 20th-century French design, specializing in the works of ICONIC designers such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, and Pierre Jeanneret. The way each piece is presented—allowing the raw beauty, functionality, and innovation of these designers to take center stage. Every visit feels like a masterclass in timeless design, where past and present seamlessly connect.”

“This charming bistro, nestled near the Seine, captures the essence of Parisian AUTHENTICITY. The ambiance is warm, intimate, and steeped in history, with its traditional wooden paneling, soft lighting, and classic French bistro charm. What makes this place particularly special is its connection to Paris' artistic past, having been frequented by many cultural figures, including Serge Gainsbourg. The welcoming staff adds to the bistro's charm, and the friendly atmosphere makes it feel like a home away from home. It’s the kind of place where you’re always treated like a regular, whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth.”

WHERE FRENCH CLASSICS ARE STILL SACRED

Some places resist change, and that is precisely their charm. Le Bistrot de Paris has been serving classic French dishes in the 7th arrondissement for decades, its mirrored walls and crisp white tablecloths a nod to an era that never needed updating. The menu is unfaltering—rich sauces, slow-cooked meats, and waiters who move with quiet efficiency. It is a place where lunch stretches into the afternoon, where regulars settle into their usual seats, where the food is deeply familiar yet never predictable. There is a confidence in its consistency, a reminder that true excellence doesn’t chase trends. A restaurant that knows exactly what it is—and that’s what makes it special.

A WINE CELLAR FOR THE TRUE WINE CONNOISSEURS

Producing great wine is an art form, and at La Cave du Château, it is treated with the respect it deserves. Housed in an 18th-century townhouse, the shop is a curated journey through vintages that speak of soil, season, and tradition. Here, selection is everything. There are rare finds for collectors, everyday bottles for enthusiasts, and an atmosphere that turns each purchase into an education. The space itself is unassuming, a quiet retreat from the city, where conversations about terroir unfold with the same ease as casual recommendations.

“As a wine enthusiast, I’m always looking for places that offer an EXCEPTIONAL selection, and La Cave du Château is exactly that. Nestled within the renowned Michelin-starred restaurant Le Clarence, this wine cellar offers an extraordinary range of rare and prestigious grands crus. One of my personal favorites is their beautiful selection of Château Haut-Brion, a truly exquisite wine that showcases the complexity and elegance of one of Bordeaux’s finest estates.. For me, it’s the perfect destination to discover some of the finest wines in the world.”
